Artist's Comments

Learning to draw better, taking challenges/suggestions from others. The first challenge here was to draw a tree. This is the result.

I know it's not great, and that there is no shading etc, but as the title implies, I'm learning to draw again. It's been so long since I drew anything of worth that I've pretty much forgotten everything, so I'm starting from scratch again.

This was draw without any references, all just from out of my head. I also know I should steer clear of using lined paper to draw on, but it was a) handy/nearby and b) I knew the picture wasn't going to be anything great, so it really doesn't matter that much. When I get better I'll use unlined paper, but for now, it is more important that I learn the skills again that I lost, and then get far better than I was before.

Critiques very welcome, since I'm trying to make myself draw more, and get better.

What's the next challenge?

I'm going to be , uh hard I guess, please don't take it personal, I'm having a very bad day, and you asked for crits :giggles:

lesson 1 don't draw on lined paper

EVER xD
copie paper for printers ftw! gets sold in high amounts and its cheaper then a fancy sketchbook ,go for the regular 80 grams.

Good start, might if I recommend Betty Edward's 'Drawing on the right side of he brain' and follow her assignments, your world will get opened up.

but now the less fun stuff ...

if your wanting to really learn then draw from reference, not from foto's , not from teh internets, not from others ppls art and most sertanly not from your head, but from real life. This really is sadly enough the only way to learn drawing, because drawing is not about the lines on your paper, its about your skill of seeing your surrounding.
You can start with anything :D I started with appels and pencils, I drew whatever I carried with me to school, popped it up my desk and drew it when I got bored.

Becouse I drew from my head from 12 to 16 I had not made any progress at all in 4 years. Noting, nada ,zippo, I really can't stress enough about this, I don't want to see this happening to others ... that is why I'm telling you this.
and I really felt I needed to inform you cuz I somewhat know you at DA and stuff

Drawing is weird, when it finally hit me what it really was, I knew that I had been wasting my time on epic scale, but yeah thats belgium, they don't take kids serious. There wasn't a teacher that said 'ho you got it' nono, you feel it, you'll notice it and with doing it more you sharpen it.

I hope I somewhat helped here and not scared you off ^^; if you got any questions feel free to pop me a note ! Its much handier the MSN cuz I'm always buissy chatting on that one xD
If you really are wanting to get serious I might be off help too, not as a teacher, but I'v known some websites of online art institutes, with some help and luck I might find them back >_>; of course , they are handled by teachers so its not a free service, but wer bolth working ppl =D

anyway, good luck in your journey, now don't you give up!

well an artist should be able to draw on whatever is closest possible :p
and its a good start, just keep drawing, do several trees at once, and preferably go out and look at the trees outside, or take photos, it works too.

but the good thing with going out and draw from real life is that you can walk around it and check all the angles how stuff is put together and how it works :)

so gogo, more practice :D

Closest = my lined paper notepad xD
I really need to try and draw more, but I don't have time right now. I am working on a contest entry though, which is really good for me. I wish I had the time and energy to do more drawing. IF only I could quit my job so I had more time xD Oh and could do all the WoW stuff faster, that takes up my evenings before bed time xD
