Artist's Comments

My entry for :iconaura-moon:'s contest. It's her charcter Aura-Moon, but not in her traditional outfit. Since this is for a contest, I thought it better to go above and beyond the normal of just doing a picture of one of the three possible charcters, so I gave her a new outfit, to help my entry at least stand out a bit from all the other entries.

I don't actually care if I win, or lose or anything, it was the fact that I finished the picture, that it turned out almost exactly how I wanted, and that it's the best picture I've done to date, no question.

Okay now THAT is sexy! The picture looks fine, but the only thing is her arms seem too skinny for her body. other then that it looks really good^^

Good luck in the contest!^^

Thank you ^^

The arms in the reference comic pictures I looked at all had thin arms, so that's why my picture has such thin arms. I'm still happy with it though.

I really love the movement and energy here. I think the background really helps achieve that. I also like how you consistantly used cool colours throughout the whole piece; it gives a bit of a majestic feel that really suits Aura. The transparent parts of her outfit are really neat, and I like the swirl detail on the socks/nylons (?)

I agree with ~Ideya-Freak that the arm is a bit too thin, but particularily where it meets the shoulder. The muscle there would make it a bit thicker where it connects to the breast.
Her hair is also bugging me a bit. I think you could do without those lines in it (her bangs look fine though), as they seem a bit random and makes it look 'blocky', especially since there is no shadows or highlights to help suggest that you're showing more hair detail. If you excluded them (the lines), her hair would probably take on a bit more of a stylized solid look which would look nice if you also paired it with a gradiant. (I hope that makes some sense :XD: ?)

Just some critique from a random deviant.

I don't see anything wrong with how you've drawn Aura Moon. The hair is fine (being more comet tail in effect than actual hair, which works well with the character), as are the arms. The arms fit the build you've given her in this picture, actually giving a light, airy feel to her, heavier muscle tone would detract from that effect.
And before anyone shouts at me for my comments, I checked the character sheets on aura-moons journal, and made my judgements from what i saw there.
Good Luck in the contest, warrlokk.

I'm glad you like it ^^ For the colours on Aura, well those weren't up to me, I just used the Aura ref sheet, and looked at what colours/shades a few other people have used in pictures of Aura. The background actually started as a yellow/orange mix, but this last weekend, I changed it to the one it is now. I think it compliments Aura alot more, and the whole piece works together alot better.

I added the lines in her hair afterwards, because as I looked at it, the hair looked too flat without something there. If I was a better artist, and I had more time, I'd love to have added shading and more detail. If I had though right now, it would have been rushed, and totally ruined the piece.
